Russian ALROSA’s vice president, mechanic injured in mine collapse

MOSCOW, Nov 25 (PRIME) -- Vice President of Russian uncut diamond producer ALROSA Yelena Gangalo and mechanic Alexander Dovbnya were injured in a rock slide at the Udachny mine, ALROSA said in a statement on Friday.

“A dramatic increase in the movement of the amount of water-flooded rock mass in form of a mudflow occurred during inspection of a grinding complex at the mine. As a result of the already processed (partially crushed into pieces) rock with water breakout, two employees of the company got injured,” ALROSA said.

An official told PRIME that the incident will not affect production at the mine.

“The mine was not choked, the incident will have no impact on production,” he said.
